It was during the Second World War in the year 1941 when the first TV advertising was broadcasted in United States by the Bulova Watch Company. The TV channel was paid a paltry $9 for broadcasting the ad. The ad was a raw one displaying only the product and the map of United State with the slogan of the company.

The scenario has completely changed today. Majority of the Television advertising are crisp, to the point and takes a few seconds to a few minutes to display. There is hardly a product today that has not been advertised on the TV and you have been viewing them, sometimes with alarming frequency, on your TV channel.

It is not that the advertising on TV is used to promote the products and services only but it is used for every purpose including political campaigns. Many successful campaigns for US Presidents have been made through Television Station Advertising and their impact on the people has been quite significant. This is in sharp contrast to the practices followed in some countries like France where TV advertising for political purpose is prohibited under the national laws.

Advertising agencies often try to make their ads interesting for the viewers with a judicious mixture of songs or melodies. Sometimes they put a coat of humor and veiled sarcastic manners to enhance the mass appeal of the ads. The result is that the ad remains alive in the mind of the viewer long after the broadcast is over.
